What Arbitrum Bold is
Arbitrum One and Nova rely on a permissioned validator set to prevent delay attacks, a class of attacks where actors keep opening disputes to stall on-chain confirmations for as long as they will burn capital doing it.
BoLD is the dispute protocol that makes validation permissionless: an upgrade to the interactive fraud proof system securing Arbitrum chains, resolving challenges in an all-vs-all format with a fixed upper time bound.
Scope
